Artificial intelligence is shaping how universities teach, assess students, develop courses, and prepare graduates for the workplace. At the same time, companies are embedding AI into their operations, decision-making processes, and service delivery, creating new expectations for the knowledge and skills graduates bring into the labour market.
To better understand these developments, the SMARTIE project developed two surveys to collect data from higher education institutions and companies on the adoption and use of artificial intelligence.
The survey for universities explores how higher education institutions are approaching AI integration in teaching, learning, assessment, course development, and other academic activities. It also seeks to identify current practices, institutional needs, challenges, and expectations related to the responsible use of AI.
The second survey focuses on stakeholders, including employers, ministries of education, quality assurance agencies, and company representatives. It aims to understand how AI is changing professional expectations, which new competence needs are emerging, and how universities and companies can collaborate to support meaningful AI adoption.
ACEEU contributed to these activities by preparing the survey for universities, reviewing the stakeholder survey, and disseminating both surveys among universities and relevant stakeholders.
The outcomes of the two surveys will inform the identification of subject areas that could benefit the most when it comes to using AI to develop courses, enhance teaching, and support student learning in higher education.
