ACEEU supports universities in strengthening engagement, entrepreneurship, and societal impact. Helping higher education institutions (HEIs) navigate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) priorities is an extension of this mission.
Through the SHIFT project, ACEEU contributed to the development of the ESG Impact Matrix. The matrix represents concrete actions that HEIs can take to improve their performance in each ESG area. For each action, it outlines expected impacts, associated risks, and how to respond to ESG challenges.
ACEEU played a crucial role in reviewing the Matrix to ensure that the proposed areas and actions reflect the needs of diverse higher education ecosystems. This contribution ensured that the tool is relevant for institutions with different strategic ESG priorities, capacities, and levels of ESG maturity. As a result, the Matrix is suitable for both small specialised colleges and large research universities.
By using the Matrix, universities can better plan their ESG initiatives and communicate progress with clarity. The tool supports institutions that want to strengthen sustainability, inclusion, and responsible governance in a practical way.
